ABOUT US When it comes to fine cabinetry...   The difference is in the details.

James T. Bolles built his first piece of furniture in 1977 and has been making quality custom period cabinets, furniture, and kitchens ever since.  The workshop where Jim exercises his craft is an 1890 vintage barn in Old Lyme, Connecticut that he built in 1990.

Jim makes 95% of everything that comes out of his shop.  He uses any type of wood that you prefer including Antique Chestnut or Antique Pine that we stock.  His finishes are custom, he does basic painting and staining, and he also does hand planed and hand scraped surfaces with a wide variety of worn or rubbed through finishes. Jim also offers antique crackle painting or glazing which is only found with years of aging.

What is period cabinetry? Period cabinetry is what ever era you would like to capture. Do you want a look of 200 years, or maybe Greek Revival, Victorian, or a 1920s cottage look. How about French Country? What ever you are looking for, we can build it.

Quality Workmanship is differentiated by what is in the details. Just one example of this can be seen with the hand-cut dovetails shown at the left. An other example is when dealing with hard woods such as maples, cherrys, and walnuts you can not hand plane or you will tear the wood. Thus, hand scraping the entire surface with a cabinet scraper is necessary.

In addition to cabinets and kitchens, we also build custom furniture, tables, hutches, bedroom furniture, chairs, and more. And we also repair antiques.

We pay strict attention to detail as can be seen in the photos on this page and throughout our website.
